There are so many good books out there. It’s hard to pick just one. My latest fav is actually a series that I restarted. The series is called The Circle trilogy, by Ted Dekker. I just finished the second book in the series called “Red”. In Red, Dekker proves he is a master of symbolic literature. I know my taste in books is quite different than most of my students, and I would not recommend this series for the fifth grade reader. He does however, have a young adult series that may be more suited for the higher reader. I haven’t started that series yet, so I cannot fully recommend it.

Another of my favorites, is our class read aloud Gossamer, by Lois Lowry. She is a word-artist. I will post some examples of her beautiful imagery next time.
